Art Essence By Mekhla
Passion with Purpose
Original Watercolor, Acrylic, Mixed Media paintings by Mekhla
I am Mekhla Salimani. A resident of Northern Virginia, Loudoun county for over two decades, born and raised in India in a multicultural family, I feel like a global citizen. Much of my art is inspired by the natural beauty around me, and the rich, vibrant Indian culture.
I have been painting ever since I remember. While I did not study art as a major, design has always been driving my life and profession. I am an Architect and Product Designer by education and currently a coach in technology that influences product development, process and delivery. While these may seem very different, my education and passion for art enhance my ability to visualize, communicate and collaborate.
The silver lining to the pandemic was that I made time to pursue my passion for drawing and painting. In the past couple years, I have been painting cards for charity, selling art at Farmers market and bookstores – proceeds from which benefit local charities, art auctions for charity, hosting meditative art classes for local not-for-profit organizations, students at colleges and at libraries. My art was exhibited at Ashburn library in the Fall of 2021 and the Spring collection 2022 exhibited at Cascades Library- I was featured in the Leesburg Lifestyle magazine, January 2022- Titled 'Gifted and Giving'.
I enjoy exploring various mediums, watercolors and acrylics are my favorite. Watercolor is not to be controlled which is its very beauty and I love the freedom of expressions it offers. Acrylics allow me to experiment with deep, bold colors and textures. It's a beautiful journey, excitement and challenge all along.
